When the kids come home from school starving or they stay at the after school program and need some food to keep them going until dinner, it’s important to give them a healthy snack. Here is a vitamin packed smoothie that should hit the spot.
Chia seeds are naturally rich in fiber, protein and healthy fats.
Oats are a good source of protein and fiber. They help control the level of sugar in your blood and protect from colon and breast cancer.
- 3 tbsp. of oats
- 1 handful of fresh spinach leaves
- 100 gr of raspberries (frozen if not in season)
- 1 banana
- 1 lemon
- 1 tbsp. Chia seeds
- 200 ml plain yogurt or soya yogurt
- 50 ml cold water or ice cubes
Place the spinach leaves, water and yogurt into the blender. Mix until you have the consistency of a juice.
Add the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth. The length of time depends on the blender being used.
Add water if consistency is too thick. Add a few ice cubes instead of water if none of your fruit is frozen to give your smoothie a cooler taste.
The smoothie can be taken to school or to work in a thermos to keep it cool. It can even made the night before and stored in the fridge in an airtight container.
